The World Congress of Chiropractic Students (WCCS) participated in the annual Sustainable Development Goal’s (SDG) week hosted from the15th-24th of September 2023.
SDG Week is an annual event that advocates for action, accountability, and awareness surrounding the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations in 2015. These goals aim to ensure the realisation of an equitable, prosperous, and peaceful world by the year 2030. Encompassing diverse sectors, including medical, economic, and environmental domains, these goals collectively strive for a brighter, cleaner, and more peaceful future. Individuals and communities, by adhering to and following these goals, play a vital role in contributing to global sustainable development. Countries and various stakeholders, such as governments, international organisations, civil society, and the private sector, collaborate to implement and achieve the SDGs. Progress is meticulously tracked through indicators and targets defined for each goal. This tracking mechanism ensures accountability and measures the impact of actions taken, fostering sustainable development on a global scale.
The WCCS has chosen to focus on eight of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as an organization, which include::
- # 1. No poverty
- #2. Zero Hunger
- #3. Good Health and wellbeing
- #4. Quality education
- #5. Gender equality
- #6. Clean water and sanitation
- #13. Climate change
- #15. Life on land
These selected goals align closely with our mission, vision, and values as an organisation. We actively encouraged our chapters to participate in promoting these goals during SDG Week and they embraced the call enthusiastically. Spanning four regions, our chapters volunteered at soup kitchens, acted on mental and physical well-being, donated blood, and extended assistance within their communities. Simultaneously, numerous chapters conducted social media campaigns to raise awareness for the SDGs and ACT4SDGs week. Our Board of Directors also participated, each selecting a goal and taking decisive action. These are just a few examples of the impactful global actions taken by our organisation.
Our collective efforts paid off, as we contributing to the most successful Global Week of #Act4SDGs to date, with 156 million actions recorded across over 190 countries. We are proud to have played a role in this remarkable achievement.
